Course Overview: Advanced Placement U.S. History (APUSH) is a rigorous course that covers the equivalent of TWO semester courses in college. The emphasis of this course is to prepare students to successfully complete the AP exam with a score of 3 or higher. In addition, APUSH offers students an opportunity to participate in a college-level experience that focuses on mastering a significant body of factual information, interpreting documents, and writing critical essays. APUSH is challenging and stimulating, and compared with other high school courses, taking more time and requiring more homework. In order to be successful in this course, students must be able to think analytically by evaluating cause & effect relationships, making inferences, assessing conflicting viewpoints, and forming thoughtful opinions. The best technique for doing well in APUSH is consistent effort. Therefore, regular study and review and frequent practice in writing are essential; if the only out-of-class preparation you do is homework then you will not be successful in this class!!
